Members Only Section
Although most of your Web site is usually open to everybody, you can
"hide" selected areas of the site behind passwords.
Examples
www.suemaree.com
Sue-maree gives out a password to audiences during her keynote presentations, so they can log on to the Web site for additional resources.
www.mattchurch.com
Matt Church sells access to the password-protected area of his Web site.
Why is this useful?
Here are some of the benefits:
- Increase passive income: Your private area could be open to "members
only", for a subscription fee.
- Add value to clients: You can give out passwords to clients, for
access to additional material. For example, professional speakers can
give out passwords to audiences for supplementary material after their
presentation.
- Deliver private information: You can deliver client-specific
information by uploading it to your Web site.
- Leverage your intellectual property: Instead of making everything
public, you can make selected information private.
- Adminstrative support: When somebody books you, you can give them a password to
download your contract material - such as terms and conditions, fee
schedule, speaking introduction, and room layout instructions.
- Marketing value: When you meet somebody at a networking function, you could give
them your business card and a password to download, say, an e-book from
your Web site, so that they have a good reason to visit it.
What's in our system?
- The software runs on our Web server, so there's nothing to install at
your end except to add a password box to selected pages of your Web site
- You can have more than one password for the private area, so that you
can increase perceived value to clients by giving them their own
password.
- Different passwords can go to different pages, so that you can create
client-specific material or different levels of access (e.g. Silver,
Gold, Platinum)
- You can optionally collect demographic information - such as name and
e-mail address - from people who use the password.
How does it work?
It's a simple three-step process:
- Create your private pages
- Put them on your Web site
- Add passwords leading to these pages.
